Lethbridge-based Triple M drives Alberta’s modular housing push – “Triple M in Lethbridge: Leading the Charge for Modular Housing Innovation in Alberta”

⭐ Our BuildCanadaHomes.org Analysis:

Takeaway:

ATCO is ramping up its modular housing operations to tackle the increasing demand for affordable multi-family residences in Alberta and across Canada. The company’s inaugural venture, Viva Homes, is planned for Calgary’s Arbour Lake community, with 32 townhomes slated for completion in early 2026. ATCO is also focusing on collaboration with municipalities and developers to navigate regulatory hurdles that have historically delayed multi-unit housing projects. This strategic move aligns with the broader push for innovative, cost-effective housing solutions amid a national housing crisis.

For home builders, developers, and skilled trades in Ontario, particularly within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), ATCO’s initiative underscores the urgent need to adopt similar innovative methodologies. As housing affordability remains a critical issue, modular construction could represent a viable solution to not only meet demand but also streamline building processes by mitigating bureaucratic delays. The key takeaway for Ontario’s construction businesses is to explore modular or alternative building technologies tailored to local needs, as they may offer significant advantages in efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Why it matters: By proactively embracing these innovations, construction leaders in Ontario can better position themselves to compete in a saturated market while contributing to a much-needed increase in affordable housing supply.

ATCO is expanding its modular housing operations with the goal of meeting the demand for cost-competitive, multi-family housing across Alberta and Canada.

The company says it is working with municipalities and developers to address bylaw and red-tape challenges that have reportedly slowed the construction of multi-unit housing.

Its first multi-family project, Viva Homes, is under development in Calgary’s Arbour Lake community on a former ATCO Gas site.

The project is set to include 32 one and three-bedroom townhomes, expected to be ready in early 2026.
